Ed Heron Studio offers small-group art classes, workshops, one-to-one mentoring and supported studio sessions from Banks Mill Studios in Derby.
The studio is a welcoming space for adults who want to explore their creativity, build confidence, learn practical skills and make more work. Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to art after a break, or already making work and looking for direction, Ed’s sessions are designed to be friendly, thoughtful and encouraging.
Classes are kept small so that everyone has time to ask questions, receive individual guidance and work at their own pace.
Oil Painting for Beginners
You’ll learn about basic materials, brushes, surfaces, colour mixing, paint handling, planning a painting and how to begin without feeling overwhelmed.
A friendly four-week Saturday afternoon course for adults who would like to try oil painting or return to it with more confidence.
Courses are for limited numbers but run regularly so please choose another date if your first choice is sold out.

Access Information
Ed Heron Studio is on the fourth floor of Banks Mill Studios. Banks Mill is a listed building and unfortunately there is no lift, so access is by stairs only.
Please contact Ed before booking if you have any access needs or concerns about the stairs.
